ITIL
ITIL (the IT Infrastructure Library) is essentially a series of documents that are used to aid the implementation of a framework for IT Service Management. This customisable framework defines how Service Management should be applied within an organisation.

ITIL provides a systematic and professional approach to the management of IT service provision. Adopting its guidance can provide such benefits as:

  • Reduced costs
  • Improved IT services through the use of proven best practice processes
  • Improved customer satisfaction through a more professional approach to service delivery
  • Best practice standards and guidance
  • Enhanced productivity
  • Improved use of skills and experience
  • Improved delivery of third party services through the specification of ITIL or BS15000 as the standard for service delivery in services procurement

The ethos behind the development of ITIL is the recognition that organisations are becoming increasingly dependent on IT to satisfy their corporate aims and meet their business needs. This has lead to an increased requirement for high quality IT services.

ITIL Foundation Course
This 3-day course introduces the concepts of IT Service Management (ITSM) based on Version 3 of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL). It describes the IT Service Management Lifecycle and also provides a set of specialised organisational capabilities for providing value to customers in the form of services.

PRINCE2
PRINCE2 project management enables projects to be carried out effectively, efficiently and productively. The PRINCE2 software supports the management, control and organisation of a project by providing a clearly structured framework.

Below is a list of the latest edition (2009) PRINCE2 Training courses offered by Deverill:

PRINCE2 Foundation
The Foundation course grounds the delegate in the understanding of how all Processes, Themes and Techniques will work together to achieve the successful delivery of a PRINCE2 project. Delegates will be given sufficient knowledge to be able to pass the in-course examination leading to the award of the PRINCE2 Foundation Certificate.

PRINCE2 Foundation & Practitioner
This course will provide delegates with a complete and practical understanding of how to apply the PRINCE2 methodology in any number of different scenarios. Training includes the preparation for, and the sitting of, the examination leading to the PRINCE2 Practitioner Certificate, which is highly prized among employers and project managers alike.

The course objectives include the practical implementation of the PRINCE2 method and attention is paid as to how the framework can be varied to suit many different types of project. Care is also taken to show delegates how to ensure the administration of the method is at a level appropriate to the project.

PRINCE2 Practitioner Conversion
A three day course with evening work:

  • Prepare project plans using product based planning technologies
  • Undertake risk analysis and management for the project
  • Apply the PRINCE2 method appropriately to projects
  • Pass the PRINCE2 Practitioner examinations

What's New in 2009 Edition?

  • Clarification of the 7 Principles of PRINCE2 Project Management.
  • The 8 Components have been changed to 7 Themes (Change Control & Configuration Management have been merged).
  • Now 7 Processes not 8 (Planning has merged into Plans Theme). Each process contains Activities.
  • The 3 Techniques have merged into the respective themes.
  • The 36 Management Products have shrunk to 27.
  • New section on Tailoring PRINCE2 and embedding it into the organisation.
  • The manual has shrunk slightly, to under 400 pages.

Benefits of the new 2009 Edition:

  • New emphasis on project management using the 7 Principles of PRINCE2; not simply working on completion of template documents.
  • The new edition reflects and integrates with other OCG Best Practice products (MoR, MSP and ITIL).
  • The 2009 version has taken account of user feedback to make the language less “jargonistic”.
  • More guidance to support flexible implementation of PRINCE2 incorporating more useful Tailoring information.
  • More consideration of difference project types and environments.
  • Stronger emphasis on achieving benefits and using lessons from best practice experience.
